Horror Nights

The Nightgrabber creeps into your dreams and doesn’t let you go – he shapeshifts, lurks behind familiar images and turns even children’s bedrooms and forests into places of sheer horror. In an increasingly nightmarish world of werewolves, zombie experiments gone rogue, a spider-infested crypt and dark curses, all sense of order breaks down at Horror Nights, as each attraction draws you deeper into fear, decay and bloody chases. And even outside, where burning streets, the end of the world and the Vampire’s Club blur between seductive ecstasy and deadly night, there is no escape – only the certainty that you are nothing more than prey.

A gory scene at Horror Nights 2014 at Europa-Park.

The Nightgrabber prowls through dreams, jolting people awake with a crack of his whip and making their eyes flicker with terror. As darkness falls, this monstrous creature sets out on his bloodthirsty hunt. In Nightmare, the potential victims are plunged into a horrific world in which the Nightgrabber is constantly hot on their heels. Like a changeling, he constantly takes on different forms. Will it be the clown with the diabolically gleaming eyes, the dentist with his mocking laugh, or the hunchbacked old woman with black teeth?

The hellish demon could be lurking behind any of these creatures. The charmingly decorated nursery in this house is no place for joy and play. Even the wardrobe holds hidden dangers. If you manage to rush past the rusty cages through the eerie, damp catacombs, where a fine mist creeps under your clothes and settles on your glasses, out into the gloomy forest, you’re left defenceless against the Nightgrabber. This is a nightmare that never ends. 2014 is only the beginning.

The Curse of the Werewolf is gruesome and merciless. Within the dark walls of a detached house, disaster is looming. Once a month, the master of the house disappears into the cockroach-infested basement. His screams pierce to the bone. Heavy iron chains bind his arms and legs. His bones crack. The face of a loving father transforms into the countenance of a beast.

His body is covered in long, dark hair. Fangs protrude from his massive jaws. The werewolf is thirsty for blood. The metal shatters. He races through the corridors, foaming at the mouth. He is moments away from claiming his first victim. Can you find the quickest way to the exit? Will you escape him? Speed is of the essence.

Tall fences soar skywards. Coated in barbed wire and criss-crossed with electric wires, they are designed to keep intruders at bay. But curiosity gets the better of you. The unknown is all too tempting. Past an abandoned lorry, sterile corridors lead into the heart of a sinister experimental facility. The Laboratory is straight out of a science fiction film. Warning signs flash up before you enter the large airlock. But a pathological thirst for knowledge drives you forward. Experiments are being conducted here to make zombies controllable through music. The army of the undead is ready. At a safe distance, they lurk behind thick bulletproof glass, both fascinating and dangerous like animals in a zoo. In the incubation chamber, new creatures are growing, constantly monitored by busy scientists.

But something goes wrong. An explosion rocks the station. The scientists have lost control. The zombies have broken out, wandering hungrily through the corridors in search of flesh – human flesh. Blood sticks to the walls, while fresh drops are slowly drying on the cold tiled floor. This desolate room has witnessed a monstrous inferno, a birthplace of destruction and suffering. The undead have unleashed carnage. The only escape is through the ventilation shaft, but the way ahead is treacherous. Clouds of smoke obscure the view. Huge fans whip up a gale. Your destination draws near. But is it really salvation?

The zombies from the Laboratory are being stored here in The DEAD Inside 2.0. The undead are piled high in large crates, with new shipments arriving daily. The warehouse is bursting at the seams. How much longer can these monsters be kept at bay? Back in 2013, the security plan was already thrown into disarray thanks to a power cut. Have the monsters gained the upper hand? By the time the unsuspecting visitors realise what is going on here, it may already be too late.

In The Crypt – reborn, even the spiders have run wild. They dominate this labyrinth of horror. A mad professor’s experiments have gone wrong. His diabolical plan to use the secretions of mutated insects to travel through time to bring the dead back to life did not go to plan. Now the creatures are in charge. Egyptian statues are shrouded in sticky spider webs. You hold your breath amidst the dense tangle of silvery threads. Eight hairy legs as thick as tree trunks, bristly and black, creep slowly towards the intruders. Toxic sap oozes from the venomous claws. The gnarled jaws are just waiting to sink their teeth in and deliver an agonising death.

A particularly aggressive species torments the souls trapped in this inhospitable chaos. No exterminator could stand a chance against them. The Crypt – reborn gives a whole new meaning to arachnophobia. The beasts want to roam everywhere – and they manage to find their way everywhere, spotting every opening and squeezing through every crack in the crumbling walls. With their large, button-like eyes, they gaze harmlessly into space, lost in thought, yet they are treacherous and swift when they set out to hunt their prey.

With gigantic, soot-coloured crow’s wings, a diabolical creature fights its way through Nightgrabber Forest. This fearsome creature stumbles through the thicket, sometimes rustling and rumbling loudly, other times creeping silently and unnoticed until it can pounce on its prey. In the terrifying form of the Nightgrabber, three legendary figures merge into an eerie spawn of terror. According to legend, the Nightgrabber wreaks havoc in the Black Forest. After dark, he snatches up all the children who are still outside and flies them miles away from home until they can no longer find their way back. The Krampuses, too, have their sights set on naughty children.

In the guise of the devil, these mythical creatures gather around their victims, bringing misfortune and ruin. As changelings, who are also rooted in folklore, they constantly change their appearance, are descended from the devil, and have their origins in mythology. This forest is eerie and cold. The night wind blows the treetops back and forth. Like dark clouds they stretch out in front of the moon, robbing you of any glimmer of hope. Defenceless and completely at their mercy, you run straight into the Nightgrabbers’ clutches. Escape is impossible here.

Zombie Arrival is the delivery zone of the Undead Delivery Corporation, which specialises in delivering zombies and monsters. Hordes are waiting to emerge from their den. Bulky crates line the narrow path.

You hear rumbling, gnawing sounds behind the brittle wood. The creatures of hell are awakening. Evil lurks around every turn. The zombies fight their way to freedom with unbridled force, splinters flying through the air. The sky darkens. The end is nigh.

Burning cars line the length of End of Days Street. Gloomy silhouettes shuffle awkwardly through the landscape. Although they trudge laboriously through the wreckage, they spring nimbly into action the moment they catch the scent of Earthlings. Fear and helplessness race through your mind. The smell of gas lingers in the air, creating a nauseating mixture with the sickly sweet scent of death. A single spark could spell the end. This path leads straight to hell.
